About the Halkyn Consulting security blog

What This Blog Is

This is the blog of Halkyn Consulting, an independent security consultancy based in North Wales. It has been running since 2011 and covers digital forensics and incident response, Windows and Linux internals, security management, risk, and compliance – along with a library of free checklists and templates. The aim is simple: clear, practical security content without hype or vendor spin.

Who Writes It

The blog is managed by Taz Wake, founder and Security Director of Halkyn Consulting. Taz has over two decades of experience across intelligence, cyber security and incident response, beginning his career in military intelligence before moving into digital security and leading incident response teams for FTSE 100 companies.

He is a certified instructor with the SANS Institute, the author of the FOR577: Linux Incident Response & Threat Hunting course, a co-author of the FOR608: Enterprise Incident Response and Threat Hunting course,  and also teaches advanced digital forensics and threat hunting (FOR508). Certifications held across the consultancy include CISSP, GCFA, GLIR, CISM and CPP.

You can find Taz on LinkedIn, GitHub, Mastodon and Bluesky.
